Re: [Utah-astronomy] Any interest? Sun viewing at SPOC
Sorry Patrick. The only camera I use these days is on my cellphone. But I still want to see the sun through your scope. 3pm will be fine. It'd be great if Bruce can join us. I'll check with Bruce and see if he'd like to join us. Cheers, patrick On 20 Oct 2014, at 09:10, kharrismar <kharrismar@earthlink.net> wrote:
Hi Patrick, I'd love to get a look through this setup. Tuesday looks like rain, but Wednesday looks better. Would that work for you? Ken Harris

Last evening before the public star party we attached SLAS's .5 Angstrom Daystar hydrogen alpha solar filter to SPOC's 200mm Bogdan refractor (with a Brandt lens.
It took a while for the filter to warm to the correct temperature but once it did the views of the new (huge) sunspot, granulation, numerous faculae, filaments and prominences was stunning.
And this with the Sun very low in the west.
Just imagine what it would look like when high in the sky.
Which has me wondering. Anyone care to join me for some impromptu Sun viewing using the same setup Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday afternoon?

Ken, try some afocal cellphone shots. They can turn out amazingly well, especially H-a solar shots. On Tue, Oct 21, 2014 at 8:16 AM, kharrismar <kharrismar@earthlink.net> wrote:
