Re: [Utah-astronomy] Kudos for ALCON 2002
Dale and all, We on the planning committee appreciate the kind words. It was a lot of fun to put this together, but we were questioning our sanity the last few weeks! My only regret was in not being able to attend more talks. I think I'll have to go to another one in the future in order to make up for that. Many of the League members commented about what a great job both SLAS and OAS clubs did at the two star parties. I also heard a lot of compliments about the members who manned the booths and assisted in so many ways. Bruce Grim, Roger Butz, and Ron Ford, among many, made an extremely positive impression on the guests. This was definitely a club effort, and a successful one. The League president commented that the only thing as stressful to a club as putting on an ALCON, was building an observatory. He was astounded that the club was still in one piece when he heard that SLAS was doing both at the same time. It says a lot about the people in this club, and the leadership that, despite a few rocky periods, we have survived and are, I think, stronger and better than before. I am proud to be a part of SLAS. (We had heard about how John Dobson was before we invited him, but we decided that he was the sort of person that everyone should hear and see at least once, and after that, it was up to them ;).) I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of you SLASers that put ALCON together. I had a FANTASTIC time there and I learned a lot and met some great people. I've, of course, now got more ideas than I can possibly afford. ;-)
Clear skies, Dale Hooper.
P.S. I think John Dobson's theory has quite a few glaring holes - but, it sure was interesting to listen to the debate Saturday that it spurred.
