This one is just what I was looking for. I would have to agree that the maps on the SLAS website are antiquated but the problem with Google maps is that everything is updated and "new and improved" so quickly that everytime I want to use it it offers a whole new learning curve. Maybe not a steep curve but it seems it is never the same twice. I have never considered myself resistant to change but how can something be "The oringinal since 1849 AND new and improved"? Steve

I'll be honest here, those maps on the SLAS website are horrible. In the day and age of Google Maps, there is no excuse to have maps like that. Someone needs to go through the whole SLAS website and make it usable and not so outdated. ++++++++++++++++++ Troy Davidson www.istroyworking.com On Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 1:32 PM, <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

IF you use the Dark Sky Finder Map Steve (or anyone) know that it has been updated. Here is the link to the updated map: http://sites.google.com/site/3davel/home/light-pollution The one on the Dark Sky Finder was done with the impact of snow on the ground which skewed the results. The new map was done with no snow on the ground and that changed the color zone for various sites. You can read Dave L's post about it at Cloudy Nights located at http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Board/pollution/Nu... And there's the rub. We're always looking for Mr. or Ms. Someone (Someone needs to do this...) but all that ever turns up is Mr. or Ms. Nobody (...but nobody ever does). SLAS is just lucky that it has an otherwise overworked webmaster that has a life elsewhere but still finds time to donate his services and servers to SLAS at no charge. Still, if someone else would care to provide modern maps I'm sure they could be substituted for the ones currently on the site. Clear skies, patrick On 15 Sep 2010, at 16:13, Troy Davidson wrote:
