The large Class X Solar Flare this week is expected to produce a significant CME late today or tonight. Is anyone thinking of going out to watch for the Aurora? Rodger Fry
I was just going to post on this. Here is NOAA's map showing we could be on the edge for seeing an Aurora tonight: http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/pmapN.html I had a root canal from a year ago go bad and they redid it today so not sure how I"ll fee in a few hours. I may go . . . but 6:00a.m. comes early. BTW, there is a nice video of the solar flare and corresponding CME. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=himC51J23vQ On Thu, Feb 17, 2011 at 4:14 PM, Rodger C. Fry <rcfry@comcast.net> wrote:

I received an update on my iPhone a little bit ago saying the CME has reached Earth. However, spaceweather.com is saying it's not as strong as expected. Still, they are saying "high-latitude" observers "should be alert for auroras". Nearly full Moon is not helping but I'm going to look to the north every now and then to see if anything happens. patrick
