Just returned from taking possession of our new house about 5 miles S of Hurricane (don't Taser me) Utah. Got up at midnight with the moon just setting and lighting the Hurricane Cliffs. I swear the Milky Way was so bright it might have been casting a shadow! So many stars that I was confused (more than normal) as to what constellations I was looking at! WOW, right decision to move there. As we get settled in, a future invite to SLAS members to visit and set up for observation and photography. So far, no rattlesnakes or scorpions in the back yard. Steve
Hi Steve, Congrats on the move. I'm very jealous - I know what you mean about the dark skies... I grew up in the village (well, it was just a village then) of Washington. Norm Stephen Peterson wrote:

Yup, Self mod'd canon rebel XSi. I could use a better lens, but don't have the 4000$ needed to pick up the one I want lol. Thanks :) Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Sounds wonderful, Stephen! I love living in the city, but I would also love to live where I could see the night sky as you do. I am wondering if you know about any public star parties held at Snow Canyon? Is there a schedule or someone who is in charge? Thanks -A
Ann,
Sounds like you want your cake and eat it too, ha ha. I hope your daughter is enjoying Brazil. Perhaps Jerry Foote and Stephen should get an astro society going. As I recall, Cedar City has an amateur group but I don't no if St George does. St George and Snow Canyon would offer good Star Gazing. The skies are free of dust thanks to all the rain. Roger Butz and I hosted a private SPOC Star Party last night for a friends family. The sky was pretty good, I was impressed that the young kids where more knowledgeable of the night sky than many of the adults. Our school outreach seems to be paying off. BTW, Kudos to Don Colton for another great Bryce Canyon/SLAS Astronomical Festival. I heard all had a great time. Erik Sounds wonderful, Stephen! I love living in the city, but I would also

There are a couple of small clubs in St. George: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/%7Epaw/UTAHCLUBS.HTML Cheers, patrick
As an FYI, Dr. Shane Larson from USU has started a new astronomy club in Cache Valley called Cache Valley Stargazers. So far there have been a couple meetings and a couple star parties with attendance averaging about forty. The next meeting is a week from tomorrow and the speaker, Jim Davis, will be speaking about, "The Celestial Clockwork: Motions in the Sky". Hi Dale, Thanks for the info. I've added them to my list of astronomy clubs in Utah: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/UTAHCLUBS.HTML patrick On 02 Jul 2009, at 15:09, Dale Hooper wrote:
