Apollo 17 The Flag Still Stands
Found this in several places on the web but will post a link to this site for two reasons: http://cumbriansky.wordpress.com/2009/10/29/flying-the-flag-for-apollo/ One, it shows the flag in the image. Two, for those who feel we faked the moon I love the poster down a ways with the Saturn V taking off and the caption, "ONLY A MORON . . . would think we fired off 12 of these monsters just for show. May have to see if I can round up that poster . . . cool on the flag still being up.
Hi Jay, that's really interesting, but there's no source for the photo from above so we don't know if it's the view is from when the Apollo 17 crew lifted off or from the LCROSS orbiter. Until we find out it's from the orbiter, it may be premature to say the Apollo 17 flag is still standing. I hope it is. Personally I doubt that the first flag on the moon, Apollo 11's, is still up. Joe, My bad. It is from the NASA LRO Lunar Probe taken September 15th and released this week. http://www.universetoday.com/2009/10/28/lro-takes-closer-look-at-apollo-17-l... Better shots this time than in July because the orbiter is in its 50km mapping orbit, and it wasn't in that orbit in July. http://scienceblips.dailyradar.com/story/lro-takes-closer-look-at-apollo-17-... Hope that clarifies things. On Sat, Oct 31, 2009 at 9:38 AM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Wow! That's really impressive. Thanks so much for clarifying this and posting the URL. It makes me feel good to see it, makes me hopeful that we'll be back! The photo may show the spot where the American flag was planted, but there's no way of telling from that little dark spot whether the flag is still upright on laying flat on the ground. --- On Sat, 10/31/09, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote: From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Apollo 17 The Flag Still Stands To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Saturday, October 31, 2009, 12:45 PM Here's the official NASA posting on this from 10.28.09 http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/multimedia/lroimages/lroc_20091028_apo...
