It sure is spiffy looking, and I like the 3-way configurability. Anybody considering one of these? I sure wish Meade had a better track record. They make some interesting products, but I just don't trust them anymore.
I have been waiting and waiting for one to come out and then some one to review it. The mount does look very cool and a good price. I am thinking of using it for my refractor I am going to make. I have almost everything else to complete it. Just waiting for Meade to get one so it can been seen by some one. Looks to me liken they are having problems. the mount was going to come out in November and now its Feb. SURE WOULD LIKE TO SEE ONE Mark Mark Shelton Indian Hill Middle School Tech Ed. And here I thought it was on the market already. The way they've been advertising it, I bet when it does show-up there will be an order backlog. Anybody know if dealers have been taking advance orders? Mark, do you know what the payload capacity is, in GEM configuration? OPT and Meade are taking pre-orders, But they have had pre-orders for months. I have read the spec. on it and the load capacity is 40pounds in one configuration and 70 or so in another configuration. Looks like a cool mount but there is no information on the quality of the mount at all. Mark Mark Shelton Indian Hill Middle School Tech Ed. Chuck, I believe the capacity in gem configuration is 40 lbs. I too, am interested in using it for my Nexstar8i OTA to gain some stability for photography. 73, lh On 2/1/2012 8:06 AM, Chuck Hards wrote:

I can't see any type of polar scope accommodation in the photos; wondering how initial polar alignment is done.
I see the cost listed as $799. By the time you send it back and forth to Meade three or four times for repairs, losing many months of use in the process, then ultimately have to pay a third party hundreds of dollars to fix what Meade will refuse to repair, you may as well buy a G-11. It may actually cost you less in the long run. I'm actually very happy with my Celestron CGEM. I know there were a few reports of software glitches among the first buyers, so I waited a year. Mine worked perfectly straight out of the box, is precise, has a 40-lb. payload, is easy to set-up, polar-align, and use. The GPS accessory works well, too. I bought a dual-scope saddle and sprang for an aftermarket knob upgrade and hand-paddle cable extension, as well as the NexGuide autoguider- it communicates directly with the mount so a laptop isn't needed. Tracking is spot-on after doing a proper alignment and calibration. The thing that caught my eye on the Meade mount is the cube layout and alt-az/GEM versatility. Like you, Kim, my faith in Meade standing behind their products these days is non-existent.

But look at it this way, with their reputation the way it is you can pick up their stock for about $3 a share, down from a high a few years back of nearly near $70. Any unlike some of the products M***e advertises, their stock is actually available for sale. Grins, patrick (former M***e sales person)
