I have been running some ads looking for a "bare bones" ETX 125. I thought I might as well ask here and see if anyone has one they would like to sell. I don't need tripod, eyepieces, or any other accessories. I missed one on Astromart for $300.00. E-mail me off list if you have one you would consider selling. Steve

Rodger: Maybe, I hadn't considered a 105. I'll have to do some checking and make sure it will work with all the accessories I have. I think it will though. Is it just the ETX? Does it have the #497 Autostar? No tripod? And then the $64.00 question. How much are you thinking. More later. Steve

Chuck: Nah, but thanks. I ended up with a "boatload" of accessories for a ETX 125. I have had a hard time selling the accessories. If I can buy a 125 for a good price I can sell the package. Bring the C-5 to the swap meet. I may still have my Baadar solar filter that fits it for sale. Thanks. Steve

It's easier to make make do with less money than to make do with less time. Your life is what's happening at the moment. Use the "now" wisely and you will have no regrets. You may occasionaly have to give up trying to impress people though. It's a small price but a good bargain. DT --- On Fri, 4/29/11, erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

Assumptions, assumptions. Yes, my life is what's happening at the moment. Always has been. I was recently divorced and am pretty much broke. I'll have you call my creditors and you can try that line on them. I doubt you'll get very far. I am also a manager at the company I work for, in a salaried position, that essentially requires me to be "on-call", especially in today's ecconomic climate. I'm not in a position to dictate when I will or won't work. I don't have a "cookie-cutter" job, by any means. We respond to customer needs and if we don't, they go to our competitors. I do not try to impress anyone but the people I love and care for. I still have a daughter in college and that's not free in this country, at least. Responsibility takes precedence over fun, every time. THAT is the wisest use of my time. Your mileage may vary, but that's the way my life works. I'm not sacrificing anything. The sky will still be there when I'm in a position to devote time to it. I lived for astronomy club activities decades ago, but now it's a necessarily low priority. I'm sure it will move up in the rankings again, in time. Thanks for the advice, but it's not practical at the moment. Now, get back to your rose smelling. It's a good bargain, as you point out. ;o) On 4/29/11, daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com> wrote:

I should clarify that I in fact do have quite a bit of hobby time in my life currently, bolstering Daniels post- it's just not centered on astronomy at the moment. What sort of ticked me off was the assumption that someone else didn't know how to manage thier own life. I am serving my second term as president of the local RX-8 club, and we have monthly activities that I have never failed to attend. I believe our current membership exceeds that of SLAS. But these events take place during times more conducive to my work schedule- and our general membership. I am even attending a regional convention for rotary enthusiasts in Vegas this May. Most of the membership is less than half my age, so it is an energetic group, with more women and minorities participating than in my astronomy club. After a ten-hour work day that entails my getting up at 4 AM, there is no way I can cut-and-run for an observing site whenever the seeing permits. Even on my last workday of the week, I'm just too beat to head for the hills after having been awake and on my feet for twelve hours already. I don't sit at a desk all day. The only way I can guarantee astronomy time is to use vacation, and then it's a crapshoot when trying to schedule in advance. The night-time requirement of 95% of astronomical activites (regular club meetings included) means it's simply not a viable option for recreation time, when constrained by my work schedule. I'm not complaining, just dealing with reality in the best way I can at the moment. I still have fun. :o) I'm sure I'm not the only list member who has a problem with the nocturnal requirements of astronomy. On 4/29/11, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:
