From todays St. George "Spectrum" Newspaper:
Cedar Breaks to host star-gazing event CEDAR BREAKS NATIONAL MONUMENT - On Saturday and again on Sept. 3, the public is invited to attend a star-gazing event at Cedar Breaks National Monument. The free events will begin with a slide presentation at the Cedar Breaks Visitor Center at 8 p.m. Weather permitting, viewing of the night sky will begin at dusk and last until at least 11 p.m. Visitors can join National Park Service Ranger Janet Megee and Steven Overholt of the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers on Saturday. Ranger Jeremy Jeppson will assist Overholt on Sept. 3 for an evening of celestial wonders. An array of telescopes will be located at the Point Supreme Overlook, adjacent to the visitor center, for use by visitors attending these events. Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly, as nighttime temperatures could be in the mid- to upper-30's. Bring a thermos with warm beverages and folding chairs, if you wish. Flashlights are a good idea to assist you in finding your way to and from your car, but visitors are asked to leave flashlights turned off at the observation site. Cloudy skies may limit night sky viewing, but the slide presentation will still take place in the visitor center. Questions regarding the night sky presentations may be directed to the Cedar Breaks Administrative Office at 586-9451. Cedar Breaks National Monument is located 23 miles east of Cedar City on Highway 148 between Highway 14 and Brian Head.
So it's been a while since this was last kicked around; does anyone on the list know of or have a strong recommendation (ie, you own it or have used it) for a 5mw green laser that sells for under $100? Thanks, Rich __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
GPA5 <http://www.betalaser.com/green.htm> This is the one I use and it is one of the brightest out there. Quoting Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com>:

Rich, I got mine from eBay user abeland1 a couple of years ago. I've been very pleased with it. It's the one I had up at Wolf Creek a couple of weeks ago. The last batch he sold looks like it was a buy-it-now at $58.90 plus $8 shipping. (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14954&item=5750535081 ). It doesn't look like he has any on eBay at the moment, but you could always email him and see what he's up to (abeland1@amerion.com). Quinn On Friday 26 August 2005 16:54, Richard Tenney wrote:

The one I picked up recently is from http://www.z-bolt.com/generic27.html. Their model BTG-6 Plus It seems to work pretty well at a price under $100 (and it has a nice box) It came with a slip indicating that it had been tested at 4.9 mW. (I don't know that that is worth anything.) I've been planning to take it into work and see if I could measure its output correctly, but I think most of our equipment is for longer wavelengths. I probably could check and see how much 808 or 1064 nm light is coming through. If I do figure out anything more quantitative I'll let you know. --- Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

Rich, We have one from Z-bolt.com. Its much more powerful than what you want, but I believe they have one like what you are asking about. It's a great company, and its been an excellent laser.
