I don't know which older version of Windows you're using, so I can't give a specific answer to your question, but somewhere, in Control Panel I think, there should be some option with the word "Update" or some such in the label. You should be able to enter that particular option and within it there ought to be a dialog box that allow you to select whether to automatically do updates or to merely be notified when updates are available or even to ignore all update messages. I think you should be able to set it to ignore the update messages. I know that's the case with later versions of XP and newer. How critical is this? Do you need an answer b-4 tomorrow's transit? Else I can probably help out.
