<Ann Blanchard said: <Wow, they are great, but the Iris nebula is just breathtaking!> Thanks Ann. I was pretty pleased with that one as well. The dark dust is difficult to process correctly, but it sure adds to the image. The combination of reflection nebula and dust makes for a pretty dramatic image. My dark skies (in Tremonton) help too. Cheers, Tyler
Tyler, Which scope and what camera settings did you use for the images. They are great. You ought to submit at least the Iris Nebula to Sky and Telescope and/or Astronomy. <Don J. Colton said: <Which scope and what camera settings did you use for the images. They are <great. You ought to submit at least the Iris Nebula to Sky and Telescope <and/or Astronomy. Thanks Don. These images were taken with a Takahashi Epsilon 160 on a Losmandy G-11/Gemini mount. The Camera was an SBIG ST2000XM with Astrodon filters. I used MaxIm DL 4, CCD Stack, and Photoshop for the acquisition and processing. The length of exposure varied from object to object, but I binned all the color shots 2x2 and then took lots of luminance data in 10 minutes subs. Most of these objects require about 2-3 hours of data collection to make a decent image, although at F/3.3 the Epsilon is a very fast scope. I have tried submitting images to the major magazines before, but they seem to publish the same people most of the time. I can't compete with Gendler, Block, and some of the other folks who have $100,000 in equipment and have remote observatories in Arizona, etc. I wish they had different categories for images based on equipment costs. Then hacks like me might have a chance! Cheers, Tyler
I've been sad that you moved away, until I saw that image of the Iris nebula -- holy cow, that is sure gorgeous! Nothing like a little dark sky to make it all work better. Hope your family enjoys the new digs as much as you do -- Tremonton isn't exactly the most exciting of places... (I have a cousin that lives there). Keep those wonderful images coming! Amazing and beautiful, Tyler! These are truly spectacular photos, as if they were made in an observatory. I am impressed with how dark your skies are, too. This week I traveled 3 1/2 hours to a dark site in the western desert, where the sky was a joy. I planned to spend two nights. But the second night was so cloudy I had to give up. It must be a thrill to simply step into the backyard any dark night that comes along. Are there public lands in the Tremonton area where a group of us might go? And how far is it from SLC? Thanks again for an uplifting set of photos. -- Joe Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote: I've been sad that you moved away, until I saw that image of the Iris nebula -- holy cow, that is sure gorgeous! I would be willing to have a few folks here at my house sometime for a session. It might be fun. The drive is about 1 hour from SLC and the skies are not perfect, but they are pretty good. Cheers, Tyler
Tyler, I would love to visit sometime, but I'm always embarrassed by my lack of skill and noisy, light-emitting equipment. Thanks, Joe

Oh sure, and now I suppose I can't bring my dancin' shoes and white suit! -- Joe On Sep 17, 2007, at 9:04 AM, Tyler Allred wrote:

Rich It is good to hear from you Rich. I have been enjoying Tremonton and the dark skies, but missing the friends in Utah County. I like the slower pace here, but you are right.... its not the excitement capital of the planet! Cheers, Tyler
