Brent, I had you in mind when asking about possible sightings from the benches! The fact that you've seen it many times from there is encouraging. I had always labored under the false assumption that it must be seen over a water horizon, until the other day. I have read that it can be seen as a sunrise phenomenon also, but is very hard to see then, due to the fact that you must be looking at the exact spot on the eastern horizon where the sun will rise. Have you seen the morning version? Chuck __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - your guide to health and wellness http://health.yahoo.com
Chuck, I have always wondered about the morning version also. The trick is watching EXACTLY where the Sun will rise. I have heard only rumors about people seeing it. I have not. BTW, I find the green flash requires a fairly distant horizon to be seen. If you think about your explanation and the geometry involved, this makes sense too. I do think it helps if the path of the Sun's rays travels over water, although this is not a pre-requisite. The color of the green flash is also not always brilliant green. Sometimes it is a yellow green, I think caused by atmospheric turbulance confusing the spectrum. I have never seen the blue flash. I will continue watching for it.
