Several weeks ago, Orion listed a 26mm "highlight" plossl in their clearance center, for $19.95 apiece. I bought two of them, to fill a magnification gap for my bino-viewer. A few days later, I thought I'd buy a few more at that price just to tuck away or maybe pass-on at a swap meet. Well, by then the price had risen to $56.95 apiece, the same as their regular 25mm "highlight" plossl! No longer a bargain, so I didn't order more. http://www.telescope.com/control/clearance-center/accessories-on-sale/26mm-h... It turns out that the $19.95 listing was a mistake and only on the website very briefly. I just lucked-out that day.
As Napoleon Dynamite said, Lucky! Really, congrats on a nice buy. --- On Wed, 1/19/11, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Speaking of good deals - a member of the Cache Valley Stargazers club recently found a 14" LX200R on KSL.com for $3k. This scope (post Ritchey-Chretian lawsuit) is the LX200-ACF and sells for $6999. I'm saving for the 14" Celestron EdgeHD but I sure wish I could have found the above deal. Clear skies, Dale.

What a coincidence! My friend recently had his 14" LX200R stolen. (wink)
My luck tends to conform with the blues line, "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all." However, there have been a few occasions: A $700 high-altitude parka for $150, $110 crampons mis-marked for $15, a $450 technical shell jacket mis-labeled for $150. At RTMC some years ago I walked past the Woodland Hills tent just as they put out a Celestron Ultima 2000 to sell. The scope had been purchased by someone who immediately decided that it was too small and returned it with the original packaging. To their credit, Woodland Hills acknowledged that it was technically a used scope and it was priced accordingly. I bought it for $1,600 instead of the list price of $2,599 (I think). This is by far the best all-around telescope that I've owned, aside from the 10-inch Newtonian that I built about 23 years ago. The U2K has the distinction of being able to be moved manually without losing alignment, a feature all go-to scopes should have (but don't).
