Our very own Ann House is scheduled to appear on the KSL channel 5 news this afternoon during the 5:00 hour. :)
You know, Ann does so much for the Salt Lake club, if it's ever decided to honor her with a monument of some kind, we could re-name Refractor house "Ann House"... ;o) That would make the enitre refractor complex dedicated to women. Both the telescope, named for Patrick's mother, as well as the structure. On Jan 3, 2008 1:44 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Fun idea except that the scope is named for Andy Bogdan and he building for my mother. Besides, the scope and building are both named for people who have died and I don't think Ann is ready to join that heavenly group just yet. :) BTW, when we were experimenting with the portable planetarium projector inside the Refractor House dome someone suggested we consider the dome a planetarium and name it for last year's SLAS Sec/ Treas. LOL! patrick
Maybe we could dedicate an eyepeice to her. Before she goes to the great beyond!

Yep, I remembered that as soon as I pulled away from work today, and my brain began working again. I only ever met Andy a couple, three times so I'm sure that's why it didn't stick in my head. A person need not be deceased to name something in their honor...unless Bruce is a zombie? ;o) Isn't the Ealing still up for grabs? And I'm sure a sprinkler head was dedicated in my name recently... Too many paint fumes at work? :)

You are not alone. As it turns out very few SLAS members were lucky enough to know Andy very well. Reason being Andy really didn't care much about astronomy so I don't think he ever came to a meeting and seldom attended star parties. Fortunately for SLAS, Andy's true passion was building things. Have a look at the SPOC construction images gallery ( http://slas.us/ Patrick2/slas/PW.HTML ) and you'll get an idea of just how often Andy was out at SPOC helping to put up both the Harmons Observatory and the Refractor House. Fittingly, perhaps, it was while Andy was loading up his truck for yet another day of labor on the Refractor House that he suffered the attack that took him out. (Thanks Andy!)

If it were, I'm pretty sure that considering all of your labors to take it from the wreck it was to the museum piece it is today, "Hards" would be at the top of most people's short list. Carpe noctem! patrick
Thanks! But please save the Ealing for someone much more deserving. I'm happy with my sprinkler. BTW, it's the one that we usually have to put the cone over. ;o) On Jan 3, 2008 10:44 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Aloha Optimizing my Burgess refractor for solar viewing, I painted the edge of the lens. Wellllllllllllll, the solvent has migrated into the lens where it was cemented together to about 1" leaving black spots. Does anyone know who does lens recementing?? I haven't used the scope yet and I would expect some flaring and such from the black paint, but it's UGLY. Aloha and thanks Rob
Rob, you need to make sure that the solvant didn't damage any coating designed to reduce the amount of sunlight getting through -- I hope it wasn't that kind of lens. Best wishes, Joe
