I don't know if all of you have heard about this but early Saturday morning there was a real bad rock slide on SR-14. As of now, it looks like it will take months to repair. Over 1700 feet of road was damaged. This may impact the 2012 annular eclipse. I know some people were planning on going to Knarraville or Newcastle from Bryce Canyon. The only way to get to Bryce Canyon from Cedar City now is to take SR-20 to 89 then south to highway 12. Or in my case, go to Kanab and then head up 89 to highway 12. I haven't checked the Tribune or Deseret News yet to see if they covered the story. I hope to road will be open by May but at this point nobody seems to know. Clear Skies, Debbie
It seems likely it will be clear by then. I heard the news story they said use Longvalley Junction to Cedar City, that is about 40 miles north of Kanab.

oops looked at my map that is 14, wonder why the News said LongValley Junction as alternate route. Exactly where was the rock slide.

Looking at the pictures here: http://www.thespectrum.com/article/20111012/NEWS01/110120322/Landslide-close... It looks pretty massive. I could see that they may not get it fixed in time, especially with winter in the way. Thanks for the heads-up Debbie! Jo Quoting erikhansen@thebluezone.net:
