Re: [Utah-astronomy] Horses
But don't ignore them completely. I was setting up a barrel in your pasture one time when my horse accidentally stepped on my foot. I yelled to him to "get off my foot!". Apparently it worked and he never did that again. Horses are smarter than people think they are. They can sum up a rider in minutes. I really miss my horse since I sold him. Debbie

As a horse owner, I can testify to their curiosity. The best way to be approached by a horse is often to ignore it completely while you are working on something in their vicinity. Every time I take my tools into a horse's stall to fix something, invariably I have their nose over my shoulder trying to figure out what I'm up to; "is it edible?", and "can I play with it?". They have very sensitive lips, and are like babies -- they love to play with things, put things in their mouth, etc.

There's something in here about "You can lead a horse to astronomy...", but I can't quite figure out the rest.
About an hour in, a horse that had escaped from a nearby field comes running up, no doubt curious about what the two-legged beasts were up to.

Horses scare me just because of their size. But I am convinced that a huge number of animals have understanding and reasoning ability, that many do understand something we say or convey by tone of voice and body language. Animals deserve far more respect than they've been getting. Thanks, jb
