Larry, This is proceeding. We will have a meeting later this month about and I'll post here (probably tied in with Mat's ATM session if Mat is okay with that). We are looking at the first weekend in October out by Vernon (we'd do September but don't want to conflict with Great Basin). October 3rd, 4th, and 5th look good with new moon on October 4th, the Friday. Cooler and people will have to dress warmer, but still well worth it if we are in Indian Summer like we have been the last several years during that weekend. It will be a low key event, at a relatively local site that will allow people to come out and experience a nice dark site, that isn't humid nor is it the fine dust like at Lakeside. For that matter people can come out one night or several nights, their choice. Yes, its Conference Weekend and for those who are LDS, but if one chooses one can attend Priesthood in Vernon, they have a chapel there. We are coming up with basic rules for observing and having a visual area and a astro-photography area. Basically the rules like at the GSSP. We are looking at securing some sites on the Forest Land or if my own land that is out that way is ready, I'll open my land up for observing or imaging (which is one of the goals for that site, to have a dark site observing area people can go to and observe that is private with a dedicated imaging area and a dedicated visual area). I just have some building going on out there and until that is done, don't want the liability on the land along with some other venture related to the hobby that are more personal that I don't want to discuss yet. That and it is a little farther than going out to the Forest or BLM land out there. Bottom line the Utah Star Party will be similar to start out with to the Tonopah Astronomical Society's annual trip which you can see here: http://tas.astronomynv.org/cnspvi.htm If anyone is interested in speaking or participating just let me know or helping in planning let me know. We have done some of this at Mat's ATM session and in April I imagine that is where we will do more of the planning over this month and in May. If someone is interested here are some images of the field we are looking at using which is okay by the ForestService for the event. It is large, very large and plenty of areas to park, camp and even put an RV if you have it. I may be going out to my land this weekend and will take some pictures there but this field will hold more than my area on my property. Sorry, but that is the only Saturday that works for me in April. When do the sun parties start and how long do they last? If you'd like, there is time to hit both. The ATM sessions run until 2:00 PM officially, but it is not unusual to run later. Besides, you'd be able to join us for lunch and I'm sure that my wife will be happy to make liver and onions again. It turns out that it was quite popular on Saturday (5, maybe 6 people joined in with 2 of them being 12 and 13 year old girls who had never tried it before). Thanks Mat, we'll see how things go. It's actually too far ahead for me to know if I'll be working that Saturday anyway. Glad the liver and onions were a hit! It's not just for breakfast anymore. ;-) On Tue, Apr 2, 2013 at 11:25 AM, Hutchings, Mat <mat.hutchings@siemens.com>wrote:
