Re: [Utah-astronomy] Messin' with Patrick's pics
OOPS, I meant his 1976 photos of Comet West. -- jb --- On Wed, 4/15/09, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Messin' with Patrick's pics To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 4:29 PM Just for fun, I tried using the relatively new technique of stacking Patrick's two magnificent 1975 views of Comet West. I *think* the sigma clip version provided a better composite, at least with less grain and possibly more detail in the comet's tails. The "sum" version seems too harsh to me, but may not be. I posted the two photos as Patrick put them on the SLAS Gallery, then the two that I made by combining his with different techniques. Anyway, let me know what you think: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=80 Thanks, Joe _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php Visit the Wiki: http://www.utahastronomy.com
Not too shabby, Joe. That sure brought back the memories of standing in the snow on Little Mountain back then. You can see the mountain near the head of the comet. Now in your mind's eye, imagine the tail stretching halfway to the zenith.
