Re: [Utah-astronomy] Jupitar Lost a Stripe?
Sorry for my new thread on this. I hope it can be deleted or moved to this. This article says that this event occurred in 1973 when Pioneer 10 flew by taking pictures and then again around 1990 for a couple of years then. http://www.ksee24.com/news/local/93611629.html?hpt=T2 So I don't know about every 15 years but this does seem to occur. Should make the GRS easier to see, but then again, the GSR was reported, I believe, last year to be shrinking. On 2010-05-13 22:26, Dunn, David wrote:
It was interesting in the article that they mentioned that on previous occurrences the band comes back after a white disk appears on the planet. It must be some kind of storm that picks up the colored stuff and puts it back in the cloud band. It would be pretty neat to watch that process happen.

It's got to lose them all before that happens.

So far there have been no obelisk sightings.
'73 -ish would be about when I saw it last. Wow, flashbacks to a 4.25" Edmund Newtonian in the alley behind my parents house! On 5/13/10, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:
