I've replaced the comet shot I did earlier tonight with a quick and dirty montage of the comet's tail. No where near Ed Kort's caliber but it was fun to do. Note how once you get away from the coma the tail becomes much more pronounced. http://www.trilobyte.net/paw/temp/TEMP007.JPG All exposures were 60 seconds. ST-237 through C-14 operating at f/3.0 making for 12' x 15' fields. Dark frames were applied but no flat field. Had hoped to do more but clouds moved in. Patrick
Nice images Patrick, thanks for sharing! Of course we now have a multi-day lineup of new storms in the forecast... --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net> wrote:

Very nice, Patrick. When is the comet supposed to peak? Near the new moon? Thanks, Joe

Actually, its predicted to peak in brightness near the time of the new Moon (this weekend) and at a time when its tail may actually pass in front of M45. On the down side, the weather is predicted to be bad this weekend although there may be some holes in the clouds this coming Wednesday night ( http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=84074 ). Patrick
Patrick The weather you'll be getting is just about finished w/ us. We got 3.15" in 45 minutes yesterday, intense but typical of our winter rains. We're supposed to have a pristine night on Wednesday and good weather thru the beginning of next week. Photos to follow ..... aloha Rob
