I've spoken briefly with some people here in Herriman and will be speaking with them more about doing some public outreach here in Herriman, probably by the library in the north parking lot, or out front. Anyway, I am just checking if there is anyone who would be interested in joining me on 1st quarter waxing moon to show the moon, some doubles and any planets out in Herriman? I want permission and am looking at a sidewalk type astronomy on this. So any interest? Looking at doing it four to six times a year, and yes, a couple of those in the winter with weather permitting. -- Jay Eads
Of course I'm in for that. Another good spot would be in the Smiths parking lot over by Frogurt. Jay, Why do you need permission? It is public property and you can set up wherever you want. That is the way John Dobson does it. Inspired by John, Siegfried and I started the Harmons sessions by just showing up one evening. You can see where that went. Just go and do! ________________________________ From: "Hutchings, Mat (H USA)" <mat.hutchings@siemens.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2011 8:19 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Outreach in Herriman Of course I'm in for that. I'm with Brent, never invite people to have an opinion unless it is really necessary. If you are setting up on a public area, just do it, as long as you are not blocking access you should be fine. You need permission (in the form of a permit) only when you are blocking or limiting access. Asking permission is a courtesy, which is appreciated by everyone. Besides, they can do more to support by posting signs and other types of free advertising. You will get a better response that way. Harmon's is/was not "public property" nor was their parking lot. They could have had anyone arrested for trespassing. Once they found out it was harmless, they enjoyed the extra attraction to the store and supported it, even with cookies and punch. Let me know your schedule. I would like to support this. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Taylor" <robtaylorslc@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2011 10:27:31 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Outreach in Herriman I'm with Brent, never invite people to have an opinion unless it is really necessary. I would be willing to support that. I know some boys with a 10" from Herriman I could talk into supporting it also. Siegfried On Sat, Nov 5, 2011 at 9:09 PM, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:
