I just heard from NASA that a large box of eclipse glasses is now "in the mail" and headed my way. Assuming they show up in time I'll have them available for free distribution at this month's SLAS meetings. Also, here is a link to the poster the Cedar City ~ Brian Head Tourism Bureau has produced for the eclipse: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/sweetspotposter.pdf And here is the map they produced: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/sweetspotmap.pdf I will have hard copies of the poster and map to give away at both of this month's SLAS meetings. They are also producing a Sweet Spot eclipse shirt. Hopefully I'll have a sample at the meetings. Clear skies, patrick
I'm wondering why they think Kanarraville is a "sweet spot" more than Newcastle. I was speaking to the tourist bureau's PR person today and asked that very question. She said someone in Kanarraville used the term at a meeting one day and the name stuck. But then she added that while Kanarraville may be the sweet spot the whole area is sweet. :) Cheers, patrick
Oh. Anyway, Cory and I (and I think a couple of friends) will be driving to Newcastle, and it would be nice to meet up with any other astronomy friends who are going there (SLAS or OAS or unaffiliated or ....) We'll spend that night in Cedar City and head home Monday, so it also would be nice to have dinner with others going there for the eclipse, as has been suggested. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, May 3, 2012 9:54 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Eclipse stuff and glasses update On 03 May 2012, at 16:10, Joe Bauman wrote:

Hi Patrick, No idea -- Cedar City might be our best bet for a good one. -- Thanks, Joe ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, May 3, 2012 10:50 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Eclipse stuff and glasses update Any suggestions as to what restaurant? patrick On 03 May 2012, at 22:42, Joe Bauman wrote:
