Re: [Utah-astronomy] OT: Sports cars
Rob, What ever happened to your uncle's 914-6? Porsche only produced a couple thousand of those cars. Speaking of driving in Hawaii, we need to renew our conversations about our SLAS-Hawaii visit. There are quite a few people interested in going. -A
Y'all have reminded me of one my life's biggest Oh Sh** moments. When I was about 15, a friend of mine was selling off his father's car collection, around 15-20 vehicles. (His parents had divorced - long story why my friend had the cars.) Most were junk, but there was a twin to Grace Kelly's Sapphire Blue 1955 Sunbeam Alpine Roadster from "To Catch a Thief" that only needed a new top, some interior work and paint. He offered it for sale for $400 - he was trying to raise money to buy a Daytona Roadrunner (he really loved the "point-and-shoot" auto variety). I didn't have a job yet and stealing the money was out of the question. Guess I really should have re-thought my priorities and values. Hi Ann he sold it many years ago, don't know where or to whom. He was a coroner and had aircraft strobes mounted on the corners of the fenders so he wouldn't get hit when out in the wilderness at an accident site. SLAS in Hawaii got an OK for tours Haleakala observatories and Gary on the Big Island will arrange the tours at Mauna Kea sites. Lodging is available, just look on line. I have a name written down for a large condo project in Kihei that is open to groups and know of a couple others that would also work. aloha Rob
Hi Ann. Actually they made just over 3200 6s. I've had two. Wrecked one, sold the other. Once you converted the tranny to a side shift and put in a front mounted oil cooler they were very driveable although not exactly rust free. Hi Barney, That is more 6s than I had remembered. Did you have your 6s here in Utah? My 6's engine is original, but the body was modified with wide flares. -A On 9/2/07, Barney B. <aaah@sisna.com> wrote:

Both were here in SLC One was my track car. The Porsche Club sponsored races and I raced mine for about five years before I made a judgment error and stuck it into a dirt berm at just over 90 MPH. FYI, Porsche did make a model called a 916. It was a solid roof 914 with wide fenders and a more powerful engine. They were campaigned mostly in Europe, but I've seen a couple show up at vintage races.
