Re: [Utah-astronomy] Star of the Orient
Never heard of that descriptive name. What time of year did he travel? Could also be a planet... On Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 3:04 PM, Rob Ratkowski Photography < ratkwski@hawaii.rr.com> wrote:

I was watching a program yesterday about 'traders' that included the Taureg of N. Africa. An old trader said he used the 'Star of the Orient' as his guide, I looked at the Googled lists but nothing is named that way. anyone know what star that might be?? The Star of the Orient ????
Hi Chuck The winter was his travel time. There was a sunset shot w/ a bright planet in view that I suspect was Venus. There was a reference to having fog in the desert and having the 'star' in the wrong location causing the caravan to lose direction. I was just curious to know what the 'star' actually might be, my guess is a planet or some bright star like Sirius or Rigel. Aloha Rob
