Hi, I am looking for some opinions on what would be the best finder for a Dob Telescope. I have a Rigel telrade on the scope but would like a 50mm-80mm finder also. What would be your recommendations? If you have an extra finder let me know. Mark Shelton
I honestly don't know what would be the best, but would an 80mm finder upset the balance on a dob? I'd think it might be a bit heavy. Dan -- Sent from my Incredible. If you ask anyone of us who have owned them we will tell you that the StellarVue Finders are "the bomb". I have had the SV-50's on several scopes as does Bill Cowles and will rave about them. Bill ordered a base from Mannish at Agena Astro. The base is modified to fit the SV-50 and only uses two adjusting screws. Super easy. Most people have not raved about the SV-60's. Just doesn't seem to be worth the extra dollars and if you are going to get an SV-80 like mine you are going to need a lot more chain. ;)Steve

Mark,
I agree an 80 mm is probably too big for your scope, a 50 mm seems better. It seems likely the balance will need adjusting with either. I have a Lumicon 80mm Superfinder it is very heavy but it fits on my refractor pretty much in the middle of the balance point. It is pretty much redundant though, since my low power is close to what a finder scope gives. I will show it to you but I do think it is too big and heavy, it would work as a stand alone telescope which is why I am keeping it. Erik I honestly don't know what would be the best, but would an 80mm finder
