Been searching around the net since I'm doing the H400 II now and in my next list of observing includes NGC 1990 and the nebula around it. I've read this is really just one of those targets like Messier 40 that is fictional. Anyone here confirm what I've found online about this topic? I'll still look but won't take too much time on it. -- Jay Eads
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ngc1990.jpg. Also see http://www.dl-digital.com/astrophoto/p2-astro/Alnilam.htm and visual observations http://x.astrogeek.org/observations/observation.php?observation_id=790 and http://www.saguaroastro.org/content/obsnotes/ORION.htm. Despite skepticism by Doug Scobel it may be real, the deep image he shows is too large a field and may not be processed for very subtle nebulosity. This would be a good object for some narrow band imaging and long exposures. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jay Eads Sent: Thursday, November 24, 2011 3:41 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] NGC 1990 Been searching around the net since I'm doing the H400 II now and in my next list of observing includes NGC 1990 and the nebula around it.
