It seems that the biggest complaint of the list-serve format is that it tends to clutter your email IN box. My solution was to create a free gmail account and use it for utah-astronomy related messages exclusively. The gmail format makes navigating the list messages as easy as it can be, and is then much more user-friendly than a forum format, IMO. I would only use gmail for this, it's much easier to use than most other free email services. Also since I don't use this account for online shopping, it remains spam free. My personal email accounts and business account thus never get "cluttered" with interspersed astronomy posts. I've had it going this way for years now and still love it. Just a suggestion for those facing inbox overload.
Personally I am in username/password overload and am very reluctant to join any blog spots etc, that require this. Take Dish Network for example, I forgot my info and called them for it, they could not figure out how to get me logged in, that is the sort of thing that is not worth the hassle. It is easy to delete excess posts if I want, the problem is when you go long periods without checking your e-mail. Those people are likely to overload their inboxes period.
I find it interesting some site the time problem then talk about all the other "chat" sites they belong to. This is not my primary e-mail account either. Erik It seems that the biggest complaint of the list-serve format is that

Eric, 1Password has been developed for all platforms--Mac, PC, iPhone, Android. Your computer doesn't run applications? How does it work? I guess we have misunderstood each other. I will admit I'm a little behind on nomenclature and acronyms. Even though I'm all thumbs, I can't text. Dave Sent from my iPad On Jan 24, 2012, at 12:59 PM, erikhansen@thebluezone.net wrote:

Are we going to be able to see the Northern Lights because of the big CME that happened? I've never had the opportunity to see them, and if they do happen I would hate to sleep through it. What's everyone's best guess? Thanks! -Barrett
I've been watching the auroral oval at the NOAA site, and activity at our latitude is still very low. But that can change quickly! At last check, they were reporting that the bulk of the CME was passing north of earth. On Jan 24, 2012 4:29 PM, "Barrett" <BarrettWF@comcast.net> wrote:

Tonight is probably as good a chance for dim aurora as we've had in recent years, thought the heavy clouds are likely to move in before it's very dark. Things are starting to get going though and the forecast for aurora looks pretty good - http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/pmapN.html I've seen them several times from SE Idaho and a few times here in Cache Valley, but only once have I seen them very distinctly visible here, even in the city - http://smithplanet.com/astro/earthmoon/aurora/ Jared
Things not looking good at the moment. The auroral oval is still north of us but like Chuck said that could change. Channel 5 has me scheduled to do a spot on the aurora this evening during the 6:30 news. Hopefully I'll have better news by then. patrick Sent from my iPad On Jan 24, 2012, at 16:28, "Barrett" <BarrettWF@comcast.net> wrote:

Barrett, read this. This is what is possible (though not probable), even from the heart of the Salt Lake valley: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/834488/Utahns-marvel-at-colorful-aurora-s...
I've used gmail ever since it required an invitation to join it. Just recently I discovered that I could set up a filter for all incoming mail that allows me to send all messages with [Utah-Astronomy] in the subject to a folder and have it skip my inbox all together. Anyone who uses email push notification on a smart phone might agree with me that it gets a bit annoying when things get heated up or off topic and hears that new mail sound every 5 minutes. I admit it's as much my fault for living with an umbilical feeding me the web 24/7. But since I've discovered the filter feature, I'm able to ignore them till I'm ready to read them. It also keeps me from having to manage another email account. Josh
