Nah, just the Universe announcing the arrival of my new car. :) But seriously Joe it is intriguing. Just the same I've forwarded the link to an astronomer I know from one of the list serves I'm on to get his take. He's well known for ferreting out media hype so I'll be interested to see what he thinks. Nanu nanu, patrick
You should put bells on that thing to warn people it's coming. Otherwise it'll just sneak up on 'em. Actually Joe, Tesla's already have "Insane" mode so maybe being so quiet is their version of "Stealth" mode. :) But regarding the article, I've yet to see any other mention of it and am now wondering (coming when it did) if it's just an elaborate April Fools joke. If it is they sure pranked me. patrick On 31 Mar 2015, at 22:47, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Just heard back from the JPL astronomer I asked: "The biggest red flag is that all the detections are form one telescope, the Parkes telescope in Australia. A confirmation from some other facility would increase the credulity of the claim." patrick On 01 Apr 2015, at 23:17, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> wrote:

I think one of the detections was by another facility. I re-read that article and it mentions that other telescopes had picked up the energy bursts since 2001 and that the Australian telescope is the most recent one to do so. To quote:"Telescopes have been picking up so-called fast radio bursts (FRBs) since 2001. They last just a few milliseconds and erupt with about as much energy as the sun releases in a month. Ten have been detected so far, most recently in 2014, when the Parkes Telescope in New South Wales, Australia," From: Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, April 5, 2015 12:12 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] A potentially astonishing discovery Just heard back from the JPL astronomer I asked: "The biggest red flag is that all the detections are form one telescope, the Parkes telescope in Australia. My vote is some type of stellar remnant. If it is a LGM source, with some of the source distances calculated at 5.5 billion light years, we’re not going to set up any sort of meaningful dialogue. It is interesting. Thanks for the link. Here’s another similar article: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1412.0342v1.pdf Dave
