For those who may not know, SLAS will be holding 2 public star parties this weekend. Tomorrow (Friday) evening at the 7th Street Harmons and Saturday evening at SPOC. Both to be held from unset to 11:00 p.m. And since it's Astronomy Day weekend, SLAS will be giving away loads of planispheres and holding drawings for telescopes and astronomy related books (maybe binoculars too but I'm not sure about that). Oh and since I hear Siegfried is out of town that may mean that finally someone other than his family members will win the drawings. LOL! "Advanced Training" (social hour) to follow both events. All of this is weather permitting of course but right now the forecast seems to be indicating the weather will permit. http://slas.us/displayevent.asp?EventID=1808 http://slas.us/displayevent.asp?EventID=1809 Clear skies, patrick

Yes, that's a wonderful addition! The Wedge is still my favorite astronomy site, despite its distance. When I was there earlier in the week, my favorite camping spot was taken, which bummed me out. Another that was good also was taken. So I ended up in the group camping area, which is near the first overlook ad not far from the public toilets. To my surprise, I had only one nearby camping group -- I think college girls, judging from their giggles and low talk; probably BYU girls, judging from their lack of partying and early going to bed. They were absolutely no trouble. When the weather is bad closer in, I don't mind the extra hours driving to and from the Wedge. I asked Attilla Danko if he could add it to the list. I thought it was silly trying to triangulate from Wolf Creek and Goblin Valley. Like you, we think the Wedge is a great "not too far away" spot when Wolf Creek is snowed in. Atillo is as gracious a guy as any I have ever communicated with, and was happy to do it. Sure Siegfried is out of town but his family is not. ;-) I have it covered, I have charted a bus for all of Siegfrieds kids and grandkids and all of mine. You have no chance of winning a telescope.
