Using the Big Scope at SPOC several of us watched as Io passed in front of Jupiter and then promptly vanished. Worked on the Big Scope's pointing accuracy for a while and then watched as Europa's and Io's shadows moved onto the Jovian disk in quick succession. Very easy to see the shadows. Like two ink dots. Then watched Europa egress the disk. That done we switched to M-51. Easy to see the spiral structure. M-27 filled the field. M-57 bared its central star with averted vision at 200x. 400x made it even easier. We are SLAS members, after all, so after all of that it's time for ATS at the Flying J. Patrick
