RE: [Utah-astronomy] Attachment test
I apologize if I started a lot of confusion and problems. I use Microsoft Outlook and don't open attachments either unless I recognize the sender and extension. In Joe's email today, I couldn't see the attachment unless I did open it - the previewer only lets me know that there is an attachment. If the sender would just briefly describe the attachment, I don't have to worry. Since I recently received a suspicious email and attachment from someone in my own office (somehow automatically sent to me by the offender under my colleague's name), I'm just being extra careful. I still would like to see pics and any other appropriate attachments from legitimate users of this list. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Trottier [mailto:strottier@novell.com] Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 5:23 PM To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Attachment test Maybe allowing attachments with .jpg extentions would be okay and Cynthia could set it up to block the rest. That way people could still attach photographs and we'd have pretty good protection against viruses. I haven't heard of viruses being sent as .jpg attachments. While we're at it, it should be safe to allow .mpg extensions as well, just in case someone had a legitimate need to attach video to their message. Personally, I'm not too concerned about getting a virus from an email attachment. My email program never opens them automatically, and I only open them if I recognize the extension and the sender. _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.utahastronomy.com
Aloha Attachments w/ .jpg seem fine w/ me. I like seeing what you folks are doing and looking at the maps that get posted for star parties in Utah and they usually are attachments. It does help if you recognize a persons name and/or e-mail address too. I tend to delete anything that I do not recognize and yes we get the trash spam here too. Aloha Rob
Hmm... this is just a normal test. My attachment test didnt come thru, or bounce, so I'm wondering if things are just slow this rainy morning. :) Cyn
Okay trying this again... the msg without the attachment came through. I modified the image criteria, this has an attachment again. Cynthia Blue wrote:

Aloha Cyn Got it. Cats or dogs?? And the weather is starting to really clear here Aloha Rob PS What was the file size of that image?? Is that the size preferred for an e-image??
Rob, the image she used was about 28kb. I'm not sure what the current limit is per message (without administrator approval) but it used to be 40kb. Oh, Dogs by the way, smooth coat Blue Collies. Dave On Friday, March 26, 2004, at 10:44 AM, Rob Ratkowski wrote:
