Tyler, I was stunned you could do that with a 45ED. The ONLY resemblance to your astrophoto with the 45ED and ANY of my astrophotos is the vignetting. I’m going to switch to spectroscopy, exclusively, and give up the imaging stuff. It’s too depressing. You are, truly, gifted. Keep up the excellent work. Dave

Thanks Joe. BTW - I missed you this year at the Kanab Imaging Festival. Ah, another convert to data-taking... :) patrick
Patrick, I am interested in trying some data collection myself. Perhaps you could email me off-list to discuss available opportunities or suggest possible contacts. I think the new scope will be adequate for many tasks and I want to give it a try. Thanks Dave, Ha! That is the exact opposite of the response I was hoping for. I actually wanted to show people that you don't need a big, expensive scope for imaging. I am often asked for advice by beginning imagers. My advice is always the same, but rarely followed... spend most of your money on the mount, not the scope. Usually, people do the exact opposite, spending most of their money to buy a large scope, and then skimping on the mount. That is a recipe for disaster! A big scope on a marginal mount is a guarantee of years of frustration. IMHO, the mount is the most important piece of equipment... BY FAR! Later, if you get more funds, you can upgrade the scope and your images will improve because the mount is still good. No matter how much you spend on the scope, you will still get lousy images if it sits on a lousy mount. My 2-cents worth.
