RE: [Utah-astronomy] SETI positive hit
Rich, You're way ahead of me, I'm at 7205. But, on a more serious "positive hit" note; you're probably aware but most others aren't, that the SETI@Home people had some time at Arecibo about a week ago to "revisit" 166 of the most promising signal sites. They will be analyzing the data to see if anything continues to remain promising. Here is a link: http://planetary.org/stellarcountdown/reobservations_8.html When I originally built my radio telescope, I planned on using it at least part-time for setileague.org stuff. So far, I haven't done that - partially because I've been too busy to write any good data analysis software. But, I'm still getting good 1420 MHz data that is piling up. <g>

I'm a fool a lot longer than April 1; I've been at this thing since '99 and have processed 10,768 work units as I write this. Can you believe that? (Patting myself on the back...). I figured even if nobody (whatever the race color or creed, romulan or vulcuan or ferengi) is out there listening or sending, it's still a cool distributed processing concept that has put a lot of idle cpu cycles to good use; think of it as yet another very successful Pro/Am collaboration.
Come join the Utah Astronomers team if you want your PC's screensaver to actually DO something (shameless promotion here, sorry):
