Shopping center construction near SPOC
I notice that there is a shopping center is being built up at the corner out at the State Highway near SPOC. Has anyone contacted the owners and builders to determine if they will be light pollution friendly? I'd hate to see a parking lot full of lights that close to SPOC. Would SLAS management please briefly address this at the next general meeting? Thanks. Clear Skies - Kurt
It is a Soelberg Grocery store and will anchor up to 450,000 square feet. The store and the initial 100,000 square feet will open this fall. This process started back in 2008 and here is a link to an article. http://www.transcriptbulletin.com/pages/full_story/push?article-Soelberg’s+coming+to+Stansbury%20&id=10972158&instance=home_news_left It is called Stansbury Crossing and in reading the planning commission minutes there is a focus on traffic and the impact, but nothing on the lighting fixtures. I would expect light pollution from this project to impact SPOC when it opens in the fall and as Woodbury Corporation, the owners and builders continue to expand the entire property into the future. Progress, right? Sent from my iPad On May 28, 2011, at 5:44 PM, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

It will employ 100? It sounds awfully big, and I mean awfully. ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, May 28, 2011 6:51 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Shopping center construction near SPOC It is a Soelberg Grocery store and will anchor up to 450,000 square feet. Yes, awfully, I agree Joe. Most of us have been to a Harmon's Star Party and it looks like this will have similar lighting. From the article the store will be larger than the community around it can support until the expected growth occurs in the area. On the bright side their will be more restaurants and fast food places for someone going to SPOC to get a bite to eat and perhaps it will bring out more people to the star parties; they'll stop by after shopping or after getting dinner . . . ?
