So, FINALLY after SO many days of gray, things out here in Ohio cleared up and I was able to catch a glimpse of tiny PanSTARRS. When it looked like the weather might cooperate, the Oberlin Physics Dept. opened up their observatory (which, as it is located on a 4th floor balcony, offers a great view of the western horizon). A good group of undergraduates and astro-club members gathered just after sunset, and several of the department's binoculars were distributed among the crowd. There were some thin clouds hovering over the horizon, but the little comet shone in and out of them, eventually growing bright enough to see naked eye...though quite faintly. After the first sighting, those who found it shouted directions to other searchers, "See that little string of 4 kind of blotchy clouds? It's sort of over the second one from the left..." etc. It was a good time. ~Kelly
