Baader solar filter for finder projects - construction pics
I threw together a Baader solar filter for a 50mm finder this weekend. It uses a rifle lens cap for a "cleaner" look. Here are the construction pics in the Utah Asto gallery - http://gallery.utahastronomy.com/v/kurt/atm/Making+a+Baader+solar+filter+for... _______________________________________________ Sent via CSolutions - http://www.csolutions.net
Nice looking filter cell Kurt. Thanks for posting the pics. Just a note about Baader film, it shouldn't be stretched tight but should be 'loose and billowy' pulling it tight causes microfissures in the coating. As you've seen there's no optical clarity lost due to it being loose. Howard --- Kurt Fisher <fisherka@csolutions.net> wrote:

Hey friends, This isn't anything stunning, but I just uploaded a neat pic I took of the moon just before the latest full moon, at http://gallery.utahastronomy.com/v/Joeb/DSC_0024a.jpg.html -- Special thanks to Howard for tip on uploading. Thanks, Joe
Aloha finally we were able to make a trip to the summit despite the NOAA prediction of 25mph winds. We found the winds at 5mph, temps in the mid 40's with great transparency. Comet Homes was to rise a bit after 6:30 but we have a lava hill that blocks views so we see things an hour later. I did manage to get a few photos w/ a William Optics 555mm Fluorite Doublet and later about 9:15 w/ my C9.25. At 9:30 the cloud fog descended and home we went. Photos uploaded are WO80FD http://gallery.utahastronomy.com/v/rob/e17P-WO80FD+5003.jpg.html and C9.25 http://gallery.utahastronomy.com/v/rob/e17P-C925.jpg.html A good time was had by all, Aloha Rob
Rob...mahalo nui loa, Excellent shots of Comet Holmes. Have you submitted these to SpaceWeather yet? You should if you haven't already. http://spaceweather.com/submissions/index.php Again, thanks for the pics, Dave Bennett On Oct 31, 2007, at 6:57 PM, Rob Ratkowski Photography wrote:

Hey Dave I did submit the images but they are just average in my opinion. we had some heavy construction equipment park on our pad and crack the surface knocking my piers out of alignment, I'll do a drift alignment Saturday and shoot again. I am happy to get decent images though. It's still pretty cool to see such a super snowball. The views in the 12"Dob were pretty good, lots of detail and bright images, easy to study the comet w/o straining the eyeballs. aloha Rob
Hey Joe, En contraire (I think that's the phrase I'm looking for)...your moon shot is actually quite stunning. I like the foreground branches and the negative space created by the horizon...great rule of thirds action. Magnifique! Dave Bennett On Oct 31, 2007, at 2:58 PM, Joe Bauman wrote:
