Hi Don, Let me make sure I know where I'm going. If I turn into the Wolf Creek campground (on the right as I head out), I see a latrine dead ahead. I go to the right side of the latrine and make my way up the hill. Am I approximately correct? See you, Michael -----Original Message----- From: "Don J. Michael, As you turn off of the main road (SR 35) into the Wolf Creek campground area you will see the group campsite(s) directly ahead of you (usually gated.) Turn right (W) and you'll pass the regular campground sites (3) and I believe the outhouse you mentioned. Just keep on this road and you'll be on the road that is indicated on the second map (WC Fields2) from my Wolf Creek map site: http://homepage.mac.com/dlbennett/PhotoAlbum4.html This road winds for a bit up and down and then straightens out for the main part of the 1.7 mile stretch. As you approach Duchesne Ridge you'll come to a fork in the road. Take the left (N) road (indicated by the Dead End sign) and travel .8 miles. Look for a field to your right with the copse of trees; seen in the last photo from my site. If you've traveled back into the forest you've gone too far. I thought I would venture out and see what Wolf Creek is all about this weekend. Besides I need to try out my new 10" Dob! The directions sound a bit complicated. Would anyone like to caravan out with me? Either Fri or Sat, maybe depends on the clouds. Kim, I would like to go meteorite hunting. Count me in. -A
Hey Ann! Glad you finally decided on a scope. I'll be bringing my 10" Dob as well, so maybe we can have a race. I must warn you that mine is F/4.5, so it's very fast ;-). I'm going up tonight (Fri), which looks like the better of the two. Not quite sure when I'm taking off--probably mid afternoon. Hope to see you there. Michael

Well the weather.com and clear sky clock were right. Not a cloud in the sky and no wind. It was a great night at Wolf Creek. Ann, When would you be able to head up to Wolf Creek after getting home from work tonight? Kim and I have talked about going up tonight depending on the weather of course...I've yet to speak with him today though. Call one of us when you get a chance. We'd be happy to convoy. Anyone out there have good sources of cloud prediction... other than buying new equipment? Weather.com says clear all night, wunderground has 40 to 45% cloud cover all night. Just wondering if either of them are very accurate, or if someone on the group has a better source of information. Thanks
Weather.com is usually the most accurate (from past experience) but they have blown it a few times. Also, from past experience the kind of white puffies we see now usually disappear after dark. The clear sky clock project is the best I've found. Here's the page with Utah specific sites: http://cleardarksky.com/csk/prov/Utah_clocks.html Rich Allen
Jan: My current weather (whether) algorith favors National Weather Services site http://www.weather.gov/ Using it requires a lot of drilling down but you can get a to smaller scales than other sites. For tonight I noted that Wendover is listed as "mostly Clear" while Salt Lake, Park City and points east are "partly cloudy". Also I look at how close to the dew point the night time temperature has fallen the previous early morning. So I'm going to the west desert tonight. Possibly Lakeside, probably the Grassy Mountains. I'm going tonight, not because it's a weekend, but because the whole state will be cloudy for the next week starting tomorrow. Clear Skies.... I hope. DT --- Josephine Grahn <bsi@xmission.com> wrote:

I still favor checking out the satellite images directly and coming up with your own forecast...I've been just as accurate (and inaccurate) as the professionals but at least I've only got one person to blame. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Saltlake/satellite/ Click on the 4km animations...Visible/IR/Water Vapor...I like the 'rock' feature. If there is anyone who hasn't been to Wolf Creek before and is heading up this weekend, you can find my maps to the site at: http://homepage.mac.com/dlbennett/PhotoAlbum4.html Just print out the two WC Fields maps and the following written directions (provided by Jo Grahn). dlb ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Take I-80 East (past Park City exit) to Exit 148. (Rt. 40 East). Stay to the right on the exit, as it splits. Head East on Rt. 40 to Exit 4. At the bottom of the exit ramp, go left towards Kamas. (I think this is Rt. 248, but I won't swear to it.) Follow this road as it winds through the hills to Kamas. In Kamas there is a stop sign at the intersection of this road and Rt. 32. Go right (South) on Rt. 32. Take Rt. 32 several miles to the intersection with Rt. 35 in Francis. Go left (East) on 35. You will go through Francis and Woodland and up past the Mill Hollow reservoir turnoff. Towards the top of the pass, you will see a sign for the Wolf Creek campground on your right. Go to and through the campground on a dirt rd, and continue on about two miles heading south, until you reach the edge of the world (ormaybe it just looks that way). The road comes to an abrupt "T". Go left, past the dead end sign, .8 miles. There is a beautiful wide grassy area to the right that Dave Bernson and Dave Bennett found several years ago. The sky is dark enough that the milky way casts a definite shadow. On Friday, September 10, 2004, at 04:08 PM, David L Bennett wrote:

Last month at Wolf Creek, the weather was not supposed to be very good, but 5 minutes after Mark Bloomenthal arrived, the sky cleared! Hey Mark, what are you doing tomorrow night??? ;) Of course I remember huddling under a canopy at Snowbird waiting for the "partly cloudy" portion of the forecast to quit falling. ;) Quoting David L Bennett <dlbennett@mac.com>:
