Fellow SLASers, There is much interest in Europa the second moon out from Jupiter as Europa may have an ocean under its surface ice. The Encyclopedia of the Solar system on page 823 states that there is a 2:1 resonant lock between Io and Europa. Io passes on some orbital energy and angular momentum it gets from Jupiter to Europa. -----Original Message----- From: Rob Ratkowski Photography Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2007 4:19 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Dark sky fund (Was: Rush Valley or Lakeside) Patrick Out here at our site, it takes a lengthy process to add anything permanent BUT temporary structures are easily added. We needed to extend the area of our pad at the HAA site by putting post foundation blocks into the soil (after getting the OK from the local cultural advisor). It's more work, more money but served our purpose w/o having to deal w/ state, county, UHawaii, IfA and Hawaiian activists,it's a clean installation and can be removed at a moments notice. This could be a problem if your site is not in a controlled are like ours. Just in case anyone is interested: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hansen Dome Theatre there is a special presentation on the subject of extra-solar planets by Ray Villard, News Director of the Space Telescope Institute and author of the new book, Infinite Worlds. Immediately following Mr. Villard's presentation there will be showing of Extreme Planets. There will be a book signing and reception after the show. The tickets are $15.00 unless you're a member. Looks intriguing to me. I'm going to try and go. Julie
