I haven't. Stiff (about cadavers) is one of my wife's favorite books and I know she is looking forward to reading Gulp, but hasn't gotten to it yet. ________________________________ From: Daniel Holmes <danielh@holmesonics.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 4, 2014 5:43 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] "The Martian" by Andy Weir Have you read any of her other books? Re the Mary Roach books "Stiff," "Bonk" and "Packing for Mars." All get a strong thumbs-up from me. Re Andy Weir's new book, "The Martian," after listening to the Science Friday interview (thanks, Debbie, for the link!) I bought the Kindle edition of it last night and began reading. It's wonderful! Can an e-book be called a "page-turner?" Maybe the correct accolade for a hard-to-put-down e-book is a "screen swiper." I have no doubt that the movie rights are currently being fought over. Agreed. I had to take the Ford in for a safety inspection and oil change. Bought the Kindle version of “The Martian”. Sat there at the shop and never heard my name called. Snapped out of it and realized I’d been there for almost 2 hours. Damn, that book is good. Not the same genre as we’ve been talking about, but the best book I’ve read in about 30 years is “Devil in the Grove”. I read quite a bit. Read it a year or so before it won the Pulitzer. Believe me, it’s well-deserved. Told my friends about it. You know, the drunk-fest guys, the buddies photographing con-trail shadows from the lodge this last summer that I posted for your viewing pleasure? Most of them read it after my recommendation. A couple of them told me they’d read a little bit, become so upset they’d have to quit for awhile, then go back to it. Most of them said, ‘holy sh*t’, when we talked about it later. I think it took me about a day and a half to plough through it. I still think about it. That doesn’t happen too often with me. Dave On Mar 5, 2014, at 9:51, Seth Jarvis <SJarvis@slco.org> wrote:

Disclaimer: An ad. While you're at the Kindle store, look for my three books there: two on the Revolution (one of them a reprint from 1864), and the other is a set of newspaper articles from 1846. -- End of ad. Goodness Joe, how Republican of you. :) But seriously, too bad there's not some astronomy in your books so your work could be presented at a SLAS meeting. Have you considered doing something on astronomy during the American Revolutionary War? patrick
Hi Patrick -- All the good astronomy taking place then wasn't in the U.S. Thanks, Joe Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
