Yep that sounds like it. I just managed to miss part 2. Drat! I do seem to remember some followup news coverage that indicated it was likely the hatch blew by itself, just as Grissom had said.
As I recall this WAS a two part program. They had the chopper pilot, who was sent to recover the capsule and Grissom, on board of the recovery ship. They brought the capsule upon the rolling deck of the recovery ship and then had an EOD team try to disarm the explosive escape hatch devices located in the capsule. The show ended with the Liberty Bell sitting on a flat bed trailer and an interview with Gus Grissom brother. Seen the program a couple times. Excellent underwater footage. I was surprised to see the capsule in almost perfect condition for the amount of time it spent in seawater.

Back when I was with the late, great Hansen Planetarium I maintained the video library and one of the tapes was the Discovery Channel program I think you are referring to. I don't know if they are still loaning videos out (or if they even kept them) but I suppose you could call them and ask. Title of the tape was "In Search of Liberty Bell 7" and it was tape #349. Thanks Patrick, That's the show. I'll keep an eye on the listings, since the upcoming months generally see a lot of repeats. Otherwise, I head downtown and grab the tape. Can't believe you still remember the number. Michael On Mar 31, 2005, at 7:14 PM, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

I didn't know the program was THAT old. Probably had it on Beta Max huh? ;) Quoting Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net>:
