Pit n Pole for the Perseid Meteor Shower
As an FYI, there will be a group of us out at Pit n Pole to observe the Perseids tonight. Good dark skies, wide horizons. Feel free to come out as we'll be out there until 2:00a.m. or later. Low humidity and mild temps should make for a good time.
How's the smoke? That never shows up on the clear-sky site. Good luck! On Aug 11, 2012 3:37 PM, "Jay Eads" <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:

Last night's party was a partial success. Clouds made it rough for the dobsonian telescopes but we still had a good view of Saturn and a some summer Globulars though the holes. Most of the night was spent sitting in chairs looking for the bright Perseids that managed to find the holes in the clouds. Jay and Matt managed to bring along a small herd of teenages. Some of us stayed until the Pleaides, Jupiter and the Moon rose. On the ride home Venus was also seen. A good time out of and away from the city. Sometimes that's all that's really needed. DT
Why would clouds be a problem for Dobs (as opposed to equatorial scopes)? Just curious. Good report.
OBVIOUSLY, they don't make cloud filters for Dobs. ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2012 8:18 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Pit n Pole for the Perseid Meteor Shower Why would clouds be a problem for Dobs (as opposed to equatorial scopes)? As the post was worded, it's definitely NOT obvious. On Aug 12, 2012 8:25 PM, "Joe Bauman" <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

The family and I made it out nearby as well, we ended up set up at the Pony Express marker and were happy to see some great Perseids especially after midnight when the clouds cleared away a bit more opening up a wider viewing area. The best view however was not a Perseid but rather a Head On sporadic that was quite spectacular off the handle of the big dipper. We called it quits just before 1am. I'm processing pictures now and hope to have those up this week sometime. Howard --- On Sun, 8/12/12, daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com> wrote:
