Re: [Utah-astronomy] ATM
Jay, Another other necessary part of the setup is a heater controller. The strips alone just suck power out of the battery and can become too hot for the atmospheric temperature. http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_dnot.htm - Clear Skies, Kurt P.S. - Only three more days to summer!
Thanks Kurt, your right. I am just posting about what is needed in my blog. Dewbusters and Kendrick both offer controllers. I'm undecided as I need to do some research on which one I would want, but I am leaning toward the Dewbuster because of the internal thermostat control. It's pricey, $170.00 (or $150.00 for a Dob) about the cost of a mid range eyepiece for a good controller but it will be worth it on those nights in the desert when the dew spikes up late at night. I have the power source already and for the secondary I'm going with an Astrosystems dew guard located here: http://www.astrosystems.biz/dewgrd.htm For the Telrad I'll use this: http://www.telescopesolutions.com/ which for $26.00 shipped is a good buy. Then I'll do a strip for my eyepieces and then determine if I need to do the finder (I often use the 27mm Panoptic as a finder now). I want the option to kill the dew when it starts to get ugly and buy some extra time in the field. If there is one thing in my life missing right now, its time in the field. Now if someone could just invent a cloud buster I just might be able to be in business. On Sat, Jun 18, 2011 at 10:32 PM, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

I'm sure I need an antidew device of some kind. But besides its being pricy (or "spendy" as a friend used to say), I would have trouble accommodating its power supply. I already take three expensive batteries on my expeditions and the thought of having another to fight the dew is a little too much for me. Most of the time I don't have trouble, but this extra-moist spring has been awful. Isn't the heater controller just a 12v actuator? I use one in my observatory to dim the 12v lights. It should do the same job to control the heater. I bought my actuator off of ebay and it was only $6.00 if I remember right. I found the item. Let me know what you think Dale http://cgi.ebay.com/LED-Bulb-Dimmer-Adjustable-Brightness-Controller-DC-12V-... ________________________________ From: Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> To: Utah Astronomy List Serv <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sat, June 18, 2011 10:32:38 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] ATM Jay, Another other necessary part of the setup is a heater controller.
