Fabulous, David. Really impressive. -- Joe ________________________________ From: David Rankin <David@rankinstudio.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Fri, March 5, 2010 11:39:24 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] M51, Drizzle stack Cold of winter, haven't been able to image for a while, so I've been working on processing techniques. I decided to play around with the "Drizzle" function in Deep Sky Stacker. It is really good at enlarging and increasing the resolution of a stack of images, and was developed by Nasa for use with Hubble Deep Field work. You can read about the feature here: http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/technical.htm#Drizzle So I did a 2x drizzle on the M51 stack to see what sort of detail I could pull out of it and how big I could get it. Here is the result so far: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=3017&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 After the stack was finished, I used some of the techniques talked about by Ken Crawford in the "Depth of Field Processing" tutorial here to sharpen the details in the galaxy up a bit using photoshop. http://www.imagingdeepsky.com/Presentations.html Cheers, David Rankin _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php Visit the Wiki: http://www.utahastronomy.com
