Dale, I guess it is very easy for us to forget that many more people read this news group than actually post regularly. I suspect Kim forgot that, and did not re-read his post as carefully as he might have otherwise done. Those of us who know Kim and know the pain that he sees daily from illness would never think that he would be happy that someone was ill. However, we also know he has fought hard against the absurd ideas promulgated by Buttars to teach religion as science in the schools. I think that those of us who know Kim understood that what he meant was that it was a good day for science because Buttars was not there to push for the silly science bill that he has been trying to foist upon us. It was not that Buttars was sick, just that he was "away". Regarding the Democratic underground crack.. well, I think that since the majority of the people in the US and on this news group think that Bush's backing of teaching "Intelligent Design" in schools was a bad idea, it was more a crack against Bush, than against the Republican party, per. se. and, again, appropriate to be upset at in a science news group. I have heard many of the Republicans on this group indicate a discomfort with Bush's statement supporting Intelligent Design being taught in school. I am sure Kim will apologize, because I know it was not Buttars pain that he was glad for, but I want him to know that those who know him, understood the intent of his post. Kim,
I really don't know you well - but you should be ashamed of yourself. I certainly don't agree with what Mr. Buttars is saying but to consider someone's seriously ill health as "good news" is just bizarre.
As far as your politics - I didn't realize this was a branch of democrat underground. I thought it was supposed to be a Utah Astronomy list.
