Jim, I suspect both Brent and Chuck are not necessarily talking about limiting this to 2 or 3 people, but what they definitely don't want is to make it part of a public star party. A handful of very interested amateur astronomers is one thing, but crowds of curious onlookers is quite another. Unless I misread where this was going...? I have been reading with Great interest about what has become The filter seminar. I like Brets attitude when he said something about I want to see what you see thereby setting the direction to a pursuit of knowledge instead of what could have become an ego thing. I like current direction except that I think I am hearing you may want to narrow the field a bit which may exclude me because although I have a telescope I dont own any filters yet.
I have been talking to people offline and there seem to be a broad base of interest in this pursuit. I was thinking, there are a lot people with telescopes (I was surprised how many showed up hat Harmons the other night), and could a group of telescopes investigate some aspect of filters or could a bunch of telescopes all look at the same thing with different filters, then each participant look thru the different telescopes to see the difference? So I guess my question is, would a good number of telescopes help or are you looking to go out just you and Brent?
There may be some consensus come of this, but more likely each person will come away with his/her own opinion. Thats what opinions are for.

The details we are talking about seeing are fleeting even during good seeing; it may not be possible to draw any conclusions after only one session. A variety of seeing conditions might be neccesary to explore this fully.

I don't think the object here is to get a bunch of people to attend. I am interested in looking through my telescope and comparing what I see to what others are seeing through theirs. This activity does not lend itself to getting many folks who don't have their own scopes to look through, ie a bunch of people.
I am more than happy to share this with other serious observers. Here, the more the merrier. I just want time at the eyepiece without catering to the public, or someone without a telescope. Am I being too stingy?
