Chuck, I didn't catch that last night but Bill Kennedy and I were at Wolf Creek Saturday night and the moon was spectacular that night. It indeed looked very big even though it was a very small sliver. It was a gamble going to Wolf Creek on Saturday but we both went thinking that at the worst, we would get a camping trip out of it. The skies were mostly cloudy at 6:00 PM when we got there but by sunset they started to break up. At 9:30 PM, the skies were mostly clear and very stable. They stayed that way until about 1:30 AM when the clouds moved in shuting us down. It was a worthwhile trip even though it started raining during the night and we had to pack up our gear in the rain Sunday morning. Did anyone else happen to see last night's moonset?
I was struck at how close to vertical the lunar crescent was oriented. Also the "large moon" illusion was very apparent, something I notice more often with a rising or setting moon closer to full phase.
Beautiful sight. _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php Visit the Wiki: http://www.utahastronomy.com
