I saw the rubber band ball dropped on the cable tv show "Real TV" with Ahmad Rahshad.  It was about a 5' ball of rubber.  It went splat.  It left about a 4' crater.  I'm sure the show will be on reruns.  I think they used private land out by Mahave airfield California City, CA. for a drop zone.  That particular drop zone is famous for dropping guys in cars, motorcycles, boats, nearly anything you can think of.
