Last evening before the public star party we attached SLAS's .5 Angstrom Daystar hydrogen alpha solar filter to SPOC's 200mm Bogdan refractor (with a Brandt lens. It took a while for the filter to warm to the correct temperature but once it did the views of the new (huge) sunspot, granulation, numerous faculae, filaments and prominences was stunning. And this with the Sun very low in the west. Just imagine what it would look like when high in the sky. Which has me wondering. Anyone care to join me for some impromptu Sun viewing using the same setup Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday afternoon? patrick
