I assume you mean an amateur discovers one, but I get it. The technology has allowed us to use small-aperture instruments perhaps to their fullest potential, and who knows what awaits? You know, it's just a matter of time before an amateur actually detects a transiting exoplanet, rather than recording data on one known to exist. If you were to get lucky, recording brightness from the right star just as its planet crossed, you could do it.
