And here is what Wikipedia has to say about Cortlandt St. surplus electronics stores:

I'll bet our own Ra-Elco can give 'em a run for the money.

Ed, I remember reading about Cordlant Street in NYC with it's WWII surplus stores. I think it is still called the long street of electronics. Never had the chance to visit. 73

It is quite a place, isn't it Larry. Wasn't it that Edwards outfit up north of Ogden that had the slogan "If we don't have it, you don't need it!"? Well, I think Ra-Elco's is "If we don't have it, it's never been made!" As to the dust, I've got some of that in my jeans, too. But, oh what treasures await the inquisitive in those hallowed isles.

Thanks, Ed, but I have used Raelco for years. My son, Dan, probably has some of their dust on His knees that hasn't washed off yet! 73

Just BTW, Rob, who works at Raelco and I believe is an owner is interested in Astronomy and owns a telescope. I ran into him several years ago at SPOC. I would ask for him.
Merry Christmas to all,

I'll second the Ra-Elco plug. If you need electronic components, they are very likely going to have it. It's a candy store for wireheads!

Hi Larry, et al,
I have no idea what the connector you are talking about looks like, but the first place I would look is at Ra-Elco, 2780 S. Main St. SLC 801-487-7749. Call for hours - they are closed during a daily 12 to 1 lunch break, I believe and open on a limited basis on Saturday.
Same suggestion for anything electronic. And, no, I'm not a share holder, but I'd hate to lose that resource.

Glad you found the problem. An economical volt meter is a good thing to have in your tool kit. BTW, I run my 8i without any batteries in their compartment. They do not last very long, esp. in colder weather And, if you continue to run off a separate power source (recommended), you might find they have begun to corrode the next time you think about them. I also tie a simple knot in the PS cord while it is wrapped around the lower part of the support arm. That way you avoid putting excess strain on the end plug, as well as the connector on the base of the Nexstar. Even tho you set your mount to avoid cord wrap, this can happen. Radio Shack carried an exactly sized fitting to go on the end of your power cable, but since they are now deceased, I don't know where to look for them. I speak from experience, as I destroyed the tip on my cord--and not at the start-I had been using the scope for a couple of years when it happened. There is an excellent Nexstar resource site run by Mike Swanson, _www.nexstarsite.com_. He also offers a resource book, if you are interested, but most of the info is posted to the site. 73 _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy
